Our Academy was launched in April 2012 in partnership with Invest in Renfrewshire, Scottish Enterprise and West College Scotland (WCS) as a result of the talent strategy of our parent company, Scottish Leather Group. The Academy encompasses Learning and Development from apprentice level to senior management.
Currently the Academy has two apprenticeship programmes; Engineering and Leather Production & Manufacturing.
The first group of Leather Production & Manufacturing apprentices have now completed the two year Modern Apprenticeship and most of these apprentices are still working within the business. In excess of 100 employees have completed an SVQ Level 2 in Leather Manufacturing since the Academy’s inception and this number continues to grow. Some employees are now working towards an SVQ Level 3 in order to gain a greater understanding of leather manufacturing and production.
The Academy has supported a number of Managers to complete Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) certified qualifications and continues to support others in completing these qualifications. In addition, it has also facilitated Prince 2 training at Foundation and Practitioner level as well as encouraging businesses to support employees through degree courses and professional qualifications.
